The directivity of a line array speaker refers to the sound coverage angle of the speaker in the horizontal and vertical directions. It determines the sound projection capabilities and coverage of the speaker in different directions. The importance of directivity is to ensure that sound can be accurately conveyed to the listener, avoiding unnecessary reflections and attenuation. By precisely controlling the direction of sound propagation, line array speakers can provide more even and consistent audio coverage, ensuring that every listener enjoys the same sound quality and volume. Directivity and sound pressure level (spl) are closely related. The narrower the speaker's directivity, the more concentrated the sound projection range, the higher the sound pressure level (spl), and the longer the distance it can reach. Conversely, a speaker with a wider directivity will distribute sound more evenly in the horizontal and vertical directions, but may have a relatively lower sound pressure level (spl). Factors related to the expressiveness and quality of sound are also affected by directivity.Line array with stronger directivity can usually provide more accurate sound positioning and clarity, allowing listeners to better feel the details and three-dimensional sense of the audio.

Why do line array sound systems have high sound pressure levels (spl) and long transmission distances?
The main reason is that the line array sound system controls the directivity of the high, medium and low frequency bands (how to control the directivity is the key to the line array sound system). Controlling the directivity means controlling the sound pressure level (spl), and controlling the sound pressure level (spl). The voltage level controls the attenuation characteristics and transmission distance. The relationship between sound source directivity characteristics and sound pressure level is shown in the figure below. From the figure, we can see that when the speaker directivity changes from 360° to 90°, the sound pressure level increases by 6dB, and the sound amplification distance doubles. This is why directivity needs to be controlled.

Speaker Directivity changes from 360° to 180°,
the sound pressure level increases by 3db
Speaker Directivity changes from 360° to 90°,
the sound pressure level increases by 6db.

KA208 is a 2-way passive 8 inch line array speaker with light weight and high sound pressure level(spl). For high-definition vocal output, it will not cause auditory fatigue to the listener, making it the best choice for speeches and vocal programs. When paired with the SB18 subwoofer, KA208 demonstrates its full range of performance, delivering powerful low-frequency impact in most high-energy concerts.

Compared with KA208 I, KA208 II has adjustable fins. KA208 II's lightweight, easy-to-use sturdy rigging and optional low-frequency extension provide maximum flexibility for complete speaker systems. It has super projection ability, smooth sound source and very wide horizontal directivity.

KA208 II features L-Fins to adjust the waveguide directivity to one of four settings: 110° / 70° symmetric or 90° asymmetric  (35°/55° or 55°/35°).
A specific KA208 II preset must be used for each directivity setting.

Within a line source, combine KA208 II with custom directivity settings to improve SPL mapping and throw capability.

►110° setting

►70° setting
Set the fins in the 35° position to provide the system with a 2 dB on-axis gain (>1kHz).

►90° settings

►Mixed settings
